Tokyo protesters demand that Russia return "northern territories"

TOKYO. Nov 1 (Interfax) - A "vocal" protest of Japanese political forces demanding return of the South Kuril Islands to Japan is accompanying the negotiations between Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Fumio Kishida, which started in Tokyo on Friday.

A car with loudspeakers is cruising back and forth in front of the Japanese Foreign Ministry building to demand "the northern territories" back, an Interfax correspondent reports.

The slogan is repeating non-stop, which creates a significant noise effect in the area around the Japanese Foreign Ministry building.

Earlier a car with a loudspeaker accompanied the bus carrying Russian journalists. Such slogans also sound loudly on the streets where hotels accommodating Russian delegation members stand.

Actions of the kind have become a traditional accompaniment to Japanese visits of Russian officials. "Ivan, Go Home," is one of the catchiest slogans.
