N.Korea blames U.S. for derailing dialogue on nuclear problem
MOSCOW/PYONGYANG. Nov 1 (Interfax) - A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman described U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's recent statement regarding North Korea as "insulting".
"Kerry's insulting statements which describe the independent and sovereign state of North Korea as a rogue country, demonstrates again that the United States is filled with disdain towards North Korea," the spokesman said in a commentary handed to Interfax on Friday.
He also said in this connection that, "military threats against Pyongyang have reached a new height, all of which indicates that the U.S. is not prepared for dialogue with North Korea on the nuclear problem of the Korean peninsula."
"The U.S. keeps advancing unacceptable bandit demands, as well as preconditions for re-launching the six-party talks on the nuclear problem of the Korean peninsula," the North Korean diplomat said.
This kind of tactics and "the treacherous gimmicks" aim "to derail the negotiating process and, concurrently, to dodge responsibility for its obstruction," he said.
Pyongyang is convinced that, "the United States' true goal is, while keeping the nuclear problems of the Korean peninsula unsettled, to use them as a pretext for military buildup in compliance with the new strategy of restoring its influence in Asia and the Pacific," the spokesman said.
"North Korea's positions on the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula remain unchanged. But since North Korea is a target of U.S. nuclear threats, it is compelled, unfettered by any commitments, to further strengthen its nuclear deterrence forces," the spokesman said.
