Four die in road accident in South Russia - Emergencies Ministry

MOSCOW/STAVROPOL. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Four people have died in an accident involving a bus and a utility vehicle in Stavropol territory, Interfax was told at the Emergency Situations' Ministry.

"Early reports indicate that four people died and two more were hospitalized. There were no children among the killed or injured," a ministry official said.

"An athletic team of 34 children and their coach were heading for a competition in a Mercedes bus from Makhachkala to Sochi. The coach died in the collision with a utility vehicle with Ukrainian license plates. None of the children was hurt," the Stavropol territory traffic police reported earlier.

They also said that the driver and one passenger died in the utility vehicle and two other passengers were injured.

Meanwhile, top spokesman for the Stavropol territory department of the Emergency Situations' Ministry Oleg Degtyaryov told Interfax that there were 39 people in the Mercedes, 34 of them children aged 10 to 12 and five adults.

The accident occurred at 7:40 a.m. on Sunday. The bus collided with a Renault minibus that drove to the opposite lane.
