Ukrainian sailor detained by Russian coast guard released in Russia
KYIV. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Ukrainian sailor Oleksandr Fedorovich has been released in Russia, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
"He has now been released thanks to the efforts made by the Ukrainian authorities and he is heading home," Yevgeniy Perebeinis, director of the information policies department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, said on Wednesday morning.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry promised to provide more details later.
The Ukrainian fishing boat collided with the Russian Coast Guard ship off the coast of the Vorontsovka village in the Sea of Azov at approximately 6 p.m. on July 17. The fishing vessel capsized and four Ukrainian citizens died in the shipwreck. One was rescued. The rescued Ukrainian, Fedorovych, underwent surgery in Yeisk, Krasnodar Territory, on July 19.
Ukraine has insisted on Fedorovich's return to Ukraine, saying all investigative actions should be conducted on the territory of Ukraine.
