Syria opposition leaders invited to Moscow for "informal contacts"

GENEVA. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Russia has invited Syrian opposition leaders to Moscow for "informal contacts" ahead of the planned Geneva II international peace conference on Syria, a top Russian diplomat said on Wednesday.

"Our proposal for informal contacts in Moscow as part of the process of organization of Geneva II would be important from the point of view of creating a favorable atmosphere, so that people can meet and discuss their issues," Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters in comments on contacts in Geneva with Syrian opposition leaders.

"As part of the process of organization of the Geneva II conference, it would be important to create a favorable atmosphere. An atmosphere in which people can come together in the same place and at the same time. To meet with one another and discuss problems that now face the Syrian people, who are represented both by the government and by the opposition, and so that some principles are agreed for addressing humanitarian issues, with subsequently going over perhaps to some political thoughts on the implementation of the Geneva communique," Bogdanov said.
