Pyotr Veliky, Varyag missile cruisers practicing interaction in Mediterranean

SEVEROMORSK. Nov 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Pyotr Veliky heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser of the Russian North Fleet is practicing maneuvers with the Pacific Fleet's Varyag missile cruiser in the Mediterranean Sea, North Fleet spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

"The crews of Russia's missile cruisers Pyotr Veliky and Varyag will practice communication on the high seas, joint maneuvering and anti-sub defense supported by helicopters in their joint operations in central areas of the Mediterranean Sea," Serga said.

Practicing interaction between fleets is a major task of North Fleet crews on distant voyages, he noted.
