Coca-Cola ups sales in Russia 4% in Q3

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Coca-Cola sales in Russian rose around 4% by volume in the third quarter of 2013 and 4%-6% in January-September, the company reported.

Sales of Coca-Cola brand products jumped 11%, due, the company says, to its sponsorship agreement for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Sales of fizzy drinks and juice compensated for the drop in water and tea based drinks on the Russian market in the third quarter. Sales of juice climbed more than 10%, with a 15% rise for Dobriy juice sales and a 17%-19% climb for Rich juice.

The rise in sales in Russia and Nigeria provided some compensation to a drop in sales in other countries regarded as emerging markets (Romania, Ukraine and Serbia).

Overall in the emerging markets segment, Coca-Cola saw a 4% drop in sales in the third quarter by volume (up 1% in the nine months). Quarterly revenue on these markets fell 6% to 867.8 million euros (up 1% in the nine months to 2.46 billion euros). Operating profit in the third quarter in these countries was 96.5 million euros (down 13%). Operating profit fell 6% in January-September to 196.1 million euros.
