North Korea claims having arrested South Korean spy
BEIJING. Nov 7 (Interfax) - North Korea has arrested a South Korean spy who tried "to rally dishonest elements" in the communist country "and use them for undermining the stability of [its] social system," North Korean news agency KCNA said on Thursday.
The alleged spy was arrested in Pyongyang.
"At first he insisted that he was Chinese [and] residing in the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] and then a citizen of a third country. As the investigation progressed, he confessed he is a south Korean who illegally moved to Pyongyang after illegally entering the DPRK from a third country," KCNA said.
"An initial investigation indicates that he was engaged in anti-DPRK espionage and activities in a third country bordering the DPRK for nearly six years, while disguising himself as a religionist. He entered the DPRK to rally dishonest elements within the boundary of the DPRK and use them for undermining the stability of the social system in the DPRK," the agency said.
South Korea's National Intelligence Service denied that any South Korean spy had been arrested in North Korea.
