Russia, China agree on direct flights between Moscow, Taipei

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - There will be direct flights between Moscow and Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, Russian Foreign Ministry official Alexander Lukashevich said.

"Consultations have been conducted between the governments of Russia and China on direct flights between Moscow and Taipei. Understanding was achieved on this issue," Lukashevich told a briefing on Friday.

"Flights between Moscow and Taipei will be carried out by the non-state private airlines Transaero (Russia) and China Airlines (China), which has a symbol in the form of a plum flower. The planes used in these flights will not bear any official symbols, flags or emblems, their crews will only use the uniform and symbols of the non-state airlines," Lukashevich said.

Russia's relations between all organizations of Taiwan are governed by the Russian presidential decree issued on September 15, 1992, Lukashevich said. "This decree clearly provides that such relations are to be unofficial and non-governmental," he said.
