State Duma committee backs bill on Federal Security Service operational search activities in information security area

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - The State Duma committee on security and corruption prevention has recommended that the State Duma pass in the first reading a government-proposed bill on operational search activities conducted by the Federal Security Service aimed at curbing and investigating actions posing a threat to Russia's information security.

The State Duma committee also proposed approving a bill expanding the list of legal civil weapons used in self-defense that is accessible to the population, which was proposed by parliamentarian Roman Khudyakov.

The committee also suggested that the State Duma pass in the first reading a government-proposed bill on guardian councils at penitentiary establishments. The bill governs the activities by such councils and envisions the possibility of their creation for active involvement in the organization of educational and patriotic events in penitentiary establishments, the social rehabilitation of convicts, and preparations for their release.
