Polonsky could have been arrested in connection with sailors abduction case - lawyer
MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - The lawyers for businessman Sergei Polonsky, who, according to the most recent information, was detained in Cambodia, said the businessman could have been arrested in connection with a local case, not at the request of Interpol.
"It is unclear what is going through the mind of the Cambodian Interior Ministry. They are settling accounts. Everyone has seen the video in which a top police officer is extorting money from my client," Polonsky's lawyer Alexander Karabanov told Interfax on Monday.
"The local authorities just want to detain him in connection with a local case involving the abduction of sailors, they are not detaining him at Interpol's request," the lawyer said.
The lawyer said no information on Polonsky's detention has been received yet. "I am expecting it from Polonsky or Interpol," Karabanov said.
