Russia is not a target of aggression for Georgia - Margvelashvili

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - Georgian president elect Giorgi Margvelashvili has said that his country has taken the first step towards restoring relations with Russia.

"We have taken the first step in order to reduce tensions. We have said that despite the problems that existed, Russia is not a target of aggression for Georgia. We declared that we will try to direct our dialogue from an aggressive attitude to a rational framework and we have taken corresponding steps," he said in an interview with a Sunday evening current events program on Russia's Channel 1.

He said Georgia gave its consent to participate in the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. "The question remains open and is being considered by our team," he said answering the question whether he plans to visit Sochi during the games.

Margvelashvili also said that the improvement of relations between Russia and Georgia also manifests itself in economic issues: "Russian businessmen are working in Georgia and Georgian commodities are returning to Russia."
