Russian-Egyptian antiterrorism working group to resume its activities - Lavrov

CAIRO. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Russia and Egypt have agreed to resume antiterrorism cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the first-ever meeting of the Russian and Egyptian foreign and defense ministers in the 2+2 format.

"Our Egyptian colleagues share an opinion with us that we are facing the same threats. It has been agreed to spur on antiterrorism cooperation and resume the activities of the bilateral antiterrorism working group," he told the media.

Lavrov said also they had discussed the situation in Syria, Libya and other countries of the region.

Moscow and Cairo understand the need to continue joint efforts for the sake of the security of Russian tourists visit Egypt, Lavrov continued.

"The country is stabilizing and the state of emergency has been lifted, so we will review the earlier recommendation [the travel alert for Egypt]. The scale of tourist arrivals is significant: approximately 100 aircraft with our citizens onboard land in Egypt each week and we are grateful to the Egyptian authorities for giving much attention to the security of tourists," the minister said.
