Indian, Russian military plan talks on security issues

MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Russia and India have reached an agreement to hold large-scale talks to discuss global and regional security issues, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Russian Defense Minister General Sergei Shoigu and Indian Defense Minister Arackaparambil Kurien Antony have conducted the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation. The meeting participants discussed issues relating to military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and India and the prospects of its further development," the report says.

The meeting participants ordered the organization of bilateral headquarters negotiations to discuss global and regional security issues and also issues relating to joint combat readiness events.

The meeting participants signed a protocol aimed at developing bilateral relations between Russia and India in the military-technical sphere.

"The parties gave high marks to the work on the prospective multi-purpose destroyer and multi-purpose transport plane, licensed production of Su-30 MKI planes and T-90S tanks, and the implementation of the program to create and produce missile systems Bramos," the document says.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the defense ministers of the two countries had pointed out the large potential of cooperation in the sphere of missile and naval technologies, helicopter engineering, and modernization of equipment for the Ground Forces.

The meeting participants also discussed the Russian-Indian anti-terrorist training Indra 2013, which took place in October 2013.
