Lavrov denies concerns about consequences of agreements between Sextet, Iran
MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the statements that the agreement between the Sextet and Iran on the Iranian nuclear program will be a historical mistake are "far from reality."
"I can't help but comment on some critical statements made about this process, which are being made now, that this process will be a historical mistake and will give Iran time to create a nuclear bomb," Lavrov said at a "business breakfast" in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"First of all, this idea is far from reality because, like I said, in Geneva Iran was ready to go faster and farther than the steps that the E3+3 group called on it to take back in early 2013," the minister said.
The statements by Lavrov were posted on the Rossiyskaya Gazeta website on Monday.
"Secondly, suspecting Russia, the United States., and other trial participants of unprofessionally approving documents, ignoring the risks to the nuclear non-proliferation regime posed by them means simply not respecting our intellectual capabilities and our firm political principles," Lavrov said.
These principles "do not allow any actions that lead to the dissemination of weapons of mass destruction," he said.
"We will be hoping that the upcoming meeting in Geneva will be constructive," he said.
