Russian Foreign Ministry, Syrian govt delegation discuss preparations for Geneva II
MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russia is satisfied with the readiness of the Syrian authorities to improve their cooperation with the international humanitarian agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) helping the Syrian people, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.
On November 18 Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Mikhail Bogdanov and Gennady Gatilov held another round of political consultations with the Syrian governmental delegation headed by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and Syrian presidential political advisor Busein Shaaban in Moscow, the statement said.
"Russia has expressed satisfaction with the readiness of Damascus that has been confirmed repeatedly for its constructive participation in this forum without any preliminary conditions as well as the intention, reiterated by the Syrian representatives, to further improve cooperation between the Syrian authorities and international humanitarian agencies and NGOs in order to relieve the suffering of Syrian civilians caused by the continuing conflict in this country," the statement said.
The sides have exchanged opinions on the situation's development in Syria. Preparations for the Geneva II international conference have been discussed in detail.
"The Syrian delegation has given high assessment of Russia's efforts aimed at assisting the fastest possible political settlement of the crisis in Syria," the statement said.
