Putin to chair Russian Security Council meeting on ecology

MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will chair a meeting of the Russian Security Council at the Kremlin on November 20 to discuss environmental protection and management dimensions of national security, the Kremlin press service reports.

Natural Resources and Ecology Minister Sergei Donskoy will be the main rapporteur. The meeting will highlight environmental safety and nature conservancy issues, including an improved system of preventing environmental damage and related crimes, better air and drinking water quality in big cities, waste management, and the cleaning and reclamation of polluted lands in the Russian Arctic.

Ecology of living systems and environmental management are listed amongst the priorities of the Russian national security strategy for the period until 2020.
