Suspect of attacks on policemen in Makhachkala surrounded in a shop - source

MAKHACHKALA. Nov 19 (Interfax) - One of the suspects of a twin attack on a policemen in Makhachkala, Russia's internal republic of Dagestan, may have taken hostages; he has been surrounded in a shop, called "Large Grocery Store #29", on Imam Shamil avenue, a source with local law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"According to available information, the suspect has been surrounded in the shop. The shop is situated on the ground floor of a nine-storey apartment building. The criminal may hold staff and visitors of the shop as hostages," the source said.

It was reported earlier that two policemen were killed in an attack on a police unit on Aziz Aliyev street near the headquarters of the Dagestani Muslim Spiritual Board at 3:10 p.m. The next attack that took place some 30 minutes later on Magomedtagirov street left two more policemen wounded.
