Russian agricultural output grows 26.3% in October - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Agricultural outfits of all categories - organizations, farmers, private auxiliary plots - increased output 5.3% year-on-year last in January-October thanks to a sharp increase in October output.

The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said Wednesday that agricultural output for the ten months was worth 3.130 trillion rubles and for October 614.4 billion rubles in current prices. These are preliminary figures.

Output in October grew 26.3% after contracting 1.4% in September. It grew 1.8% in January-September.

As of November 1, grains and legumes had been gathered in from 87.6% of the land sown with them, Rosstat said. At farms of all categories, 90.3 million tonnes of grain (bunker weight) had been harvested, about a quarter more year-on-year.

Sunflower seed production was up 3.9% at 7.6 million tonnes, that of potatoes 2.5% at 29.6 million tonnes. On the other hand, the sugar beet harvest was 11.6% down year-on-year at 28.9 million tonnes.

The production of livestock and poultry for slaughter increased 5.6% to 9.3 million live-weight tonnes in January-October, while that of milk was down 4% at 26.7 million tonnes and of eggs 2% to 34.9 billion.

There was 3% more livestock and poultry produced in October alone - 1.2 million tonnes. Milk output was down 4.1% at 2.3 million tonnes and egg production 4.4% at 3.3 billion.

As October ended, there were 20.3 million head of cattle at outfits of all categories, 2% fewer year-on-year. That included 8.8 cows, down 1.8%.

There were 20.2 million pigs, up 2.5%, and 25.8 million sheep and goats, up 0.1%.

Households had 46.1% of the cattle, 23.4% of the pigs, 46.8% of the sheep and goats. A year earlier, those figures were a respective 46.3%, 27.3%, and 47.3%.
