E.ON Russia might modernize Yaivinskaya, Shaturskaya power plants
MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - E.ON Russia plans to modernize the Yaivinskaya GRES and Shaturskaya GRES power plants if a mechanism like capacity supply agreements (CSA) is extended, company chief executive Maxim Shirokov said in an interview with Interfax.
He said this refers to applying this mechanism to the modernization of the plants. "If the conditions are created, we would very happily propose Shaturskaya GRES for modernization first of all. It is part of the so-called big ring of power supplies to Moscow, this plant is fairly critical for the System Operator. In second place would be Yaivinskaya GRES," Shirokov said.
He said the plants have both traditional steam-power units and newer combined cycle units. "Traditional equipment at a number of our power plants will become unprofitable and uneconomic by 2017 already," Shirokov said.
The CSA mechanism makes it possible to guarantee a return on investment for power industry projects, and it currently applies to new construction. The Energy Ministry is considering extending this mechanism to modernization.
