TMK, Lhoist to start producing lime in Sverdlovsk Region in 2016
YEKATERINBURG. Nov 21 (Interfax) - TMK , a major Russian pipe maker, and Belgium's Lhoist plan to launch the first phase of a joint venture in Sverdlovsk Region to process limestone and produce lime and associated products in 2016.
Investment in the first two of four planned phases will exceed 5 billion rubles, the regional government's press service said.
The project, to be carried out at the Yuzhno-Mikhailovskoye deposit, has been deemed a priority by the regional government, the press service said, adding that it is expected to create 250 new jobs.
The ventures products will be used in enriching iron ore and nonferrous metal ore, smelting iron, steel, ferroalloys and nonferrous metals, for production of walling, finishing and road materials, glass and ceramics, roofing materials, rubber goods and paints and varnishes. Lime is also used for treating drinking and industrial water, neutralizing acidic runoff, silt and flue gases, as well as in agriculture, and the pulp-and-paper, chemical and sugar industries.
TMK and Lhoist signed the agreement to form the joint venture at the Innoprom-2011 exhibition in Yekaterinburg.
