Over sixty churches, monasteries destroyed in Syria

MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Rebels have destroyed over sixty Christian churches and monasteries in Syria and over 70,000 Orthodox people in Homes and over half of the orthodox residents of Aleppo have left their homes, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said at a hearing in defense of Christian values held by an interfaction parliamentary group in the Russian State Duma, the communication service of the synodal department of external church relations reported on Friday.

Over fifty mortar shells have recently been fired at the Damascus districts of Kasaa and Bab Tuma, where Christian population is predominant, Haddad said.

Haddad thanked Russia for assistance to the people of Syria collected in the dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Community.
