Uzbek president's daughter Gulnora Karimova plans to leave Uzbekistan - source
TASHKENT. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Gulnora Karimova, the elder daughter of Uzbek President Islam Karimov, plans to leave Uzbekistan, a manager of Terra Group, a company belonging to Karimova, told Interfax on condition of anonymity on Saturday.
"We have learned that Gulnora Karimova wants to leave the country," the source said. He was unaware of where Karimova plans to emigrate.
Interfax could not immediately obtain official comments on this information, and Karimova herself was unavailable.
An Uzbek law enforcement source told Interfax that inspections have recently been conducted at numerous commercial and nonprofit organizations either belonging to Karimova or patronized by her.
"Numerous violations of the law have been uncovered during the inspections," he said.
Some employees of these organizations apparently considered themselves untouchable and grossly violated the law, he said.
"Some of them have hastily fled the country, and others have been detained and are under investigation," the source said.
The controlling bodies have sealed the offices of a number of companies and dozens of shops and restaurants owned by Karimova herself or people from her entourage.
Inspections are also under way in numerous NGOs patronized by Karimova, where massive financial violations have been uncovered as well.
