Ban Ki-moon: Geneva II to take place on January 22

NEW YORK CITY (UN). Nov 25 (Interfax) - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced on Monday that the Geneva II international peace conference for Syria would take place on January 22, Ban's spokesman Martin Nesirky wrote on Twitter.

He said it would have been impermissible to miss this opportunity to stop the suffering in Syria.

It will be a mission of hope, the UN Secretary General said.

The Syrian authorities and the opposition are expected to sit down at the negotiating table of Geneva II for the first time since the beginning of the 32-month-long conflict.
