Italy, Russia holding interstate consultations attended by Letta, Putin in Trieste

TRIESTE. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Italy and Russia are conducting interstate consultations attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta at the Trieste prefecture building.

Following the Italian prime minister's greeting, the consultations continued in the form of a working breakfast.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov had said in the run-up to Putin's visit to Italy that the international agenda "envisions a discussion of aspects of Russia's interaction with the EU and NATO and relevant international problems, primarily the situation in Syria."

Russia and Italy have regularly held interstate consultations involving key ministers as part of top-level negotiations since 2002. The previous, the 7th, meeting in this format took place in Sochi in December 2010.
