Yanukovych: Maximum gas price for Ukraine should be $300 per 1,000 cubic meters

KYIV. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The highest possible price for Russian gas sold to Ukraine should be $300 per 1,000 cubic meters, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said.

"The average European price for gas should be within $370, minus about $70 for transport for Ukraine. Hence, the maximum gas price for Ukraine should be $300. I am talking about a price that should be market-based and European. In Ukraine it should be $300. It is $510 now," Yanukovych said in an interview with leading Ukrainian TV Channels.

The Ukrainian energy provider Naftogaz currently buys Russian gas for about $410 per 1,000 cubic meters, taking into account a $100 discount granted by Russia for extending the presence of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
