Ukrainian, Lithuanian diplomats discuss Vilnius summit preparations
KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax) - A meeting with Lithuanian Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine Marius Janukonis took place at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday to discuss the Ukrainian delegation's preparations for the Eastern Partnership Vilnius summit.
"The meeting highlighted preparations of the Ukrainian delegation for the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Vilnius on November 28-29," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service said on Wednesday.
The sides also considered relevant issues relating to the current stage of Ukraine's European integration.
"The Kyiv visit of a delegation of the Lithuanian Seimas led by Speaker Loreta Grauziniene was also an item on the agenda," the ministry continued.
It said earlier that Janukonis was summoned to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday for giving explanations about the participation of Grauziniene in the opposition rally in Kyiv.
Grauziniene told the protesters in Kyiv on Tuesday night that Lithuania supported Ukrainians in their aspiration for the integration with Europe. Lithuania, which has covered its way to Europe, is ready to be a bridge to the EU for Ukraine, she said.
The Lithuanian Seimas speaker and two vice-speakers came to Kyiv on Tuesday. The visit was not planned and not coordinated with the government, the presidential administration and the foreign ministry of Lithuania. The speaker cancelled her scheduled visit to the UK for going on a trip to Kyiv.
