Georgia won't reduce its contingent in Afghanistan in 2014 - defense minister

TBILISI. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The reduction of Georgia's military contingent stationed in Afghanistan will not be put on the agenda until the end of next year, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said.

The Georgian servicemen will stop pursuing a combat mission after 2014 but until then the number of Georgian servicemen in the ISAF mission will remain unchanged, he told reporters on Friday.

"Georgia has made commitments and it is true to them. This is why our NATO partners value Georgia. Confidence in Georgian servicemen is one of the cornerstones thanks to which we are now initialing the agreement with the European Union, also, the NATO secretary general lauds the [Georgian] defense reforms," the minister noted.
