Lawyers believe Serdyukov may be charged under several Penal Code articles
MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The legal team representing Anatoly Serdyukov fears that the former Russian defense minister may be charged under several articles of Russia's Penal Code.
"Actually, our investigators are very talented people. The Criminal Code contains 360 articles. A criminal case may be opened under any of them," Serdyukov's lawyer Konstantin Rivkin told Interfax on Friday.
"We cannot yet say whether these charges will be more serious than previously expected because we have not yet received a single judicial document," Rivkin said.
Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said earlier that more serious charges could be filed against the ex-minister.
For his part, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax that Serdyukov could be charged with abuse of office, an offence which carries up to ten years in prison and a ban on holding public office for up to three years.
