Russian Aerospace Defense Forces to receive 2 S-400 regimental sets - commander

MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Aerospace Defense Forces are being provided with S-400 air defense systems and other prospective hardware, Aerospace Defense Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Alexander Golovko told Interfax-AVN.

"An S-400 air defense regimental set will be delivered to the Aerospace Defense Forces before the end of 2013. It will be deployed in the Moscow region. Another S-400 air defense regimental set is due to be supplied to the Aerospace Defense Forces in 2014," Golovko said on the eve of the Day of the Aerospace Defense Forces observed on December 1.

It was reported earlier that the first two S-400 air defense missile regiments would be stationed in Elektrostal and Dmitrov, Moscow region.

At present the Aerospace Defense Forces are armed with S-300PM intermediate-range air defense systems, S-400 "Triumf" prospective intermediate and longer range air defense missile systems (both of them designed and manufactured by the Almaz-Antei Concern), Pantsir-S short-range air defense missile and artillery systems (a product of High-Precision Weapons), Gamma and Nebo-SVU radar stations and Fundament automation systems.

"Around 18 Pantsir-S systems, Nebo-M radar systems and Podlyov and Sopka radar stations will be delivered to air defense brigades of the Aerospace Defense Forces before the end of this year," the commander said.

Air defense brigades have already been supplied with automated control and automation systems capable of guiding fighter aircraft. One of the brigades is already implementing this function, he added.
