Krasnoye Sormovo may build dredging equipment for DEME
NIZHNY NOVGOROD. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Nizhny Novgorod based OJSC Krasnoye Sormovo, which is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), may supply dredging equipment for projects in Russia under a deal with Belgian company Dredging International NV, part of DEME.
Krasnoye Sormovo signed an agreement of cooperation with Dredging International NV last week, the shipyard said in a press release.
Dredging International NV is looking at the Nizhny Novgorod company as a possible supplier of equipment for dredging, hydro-technical and other work in Russia. The Belgian company is planning projects in Nizhny Novgorod and has carried out various meetings and negotiations.
"The signing of this agreement marks the start of a relationship between Krasnoye Sormovo and an international scale company and the receipt of modern technological solutions, which will significantly strengthen the plant's position on the market for dredging vessels," the press release said.
The plant has the necessary production potential build dredging, hydro-technical and other work, a spokesman told Interfax, adding that it is still too early to speak of specific terms and orders.
DEME group (Dredging Environmental & Marine Engineering NV) specializes in the construction and development of ports, artificial islands, river dams, canals and inland navigable waterways, beach restoration, construction and maintenance of offshore wind turbines and lifting sunken ships. For complex projects, DEME offers turnkey or integrated solutions.
Dredging International NV has carried out various major projects in Russia: the widening and deepening of the Sevmash channel, deepening at the Ust-Luga port, deepening the flood protection channel in St. Petersburg and work linked to construction of the Olympic Village in Sochi.
