Accident cuts power supply to over 52,000 residents of Chechnya
PYATIGORSK. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Power supply is being restored in three districts of Chechnya. The blackout occurred on Wednesday morning, head of the public relations department of MRSK North Caucasus Vitaly Strugovets told Interfax.
"The Tsemzavod-MTZ power line was disconnected at 9 a.m. which stopped power supply to some populated areas in the Shatoi, Itum-Kale and Sharoi districts of the Chechen Republic with a total population exceeding 52,000," Strugovets said.
The automated and manual attempts to connect the power line to the grid were abortive. This is a dead-end feeder line, which makes the use of a reserve line impossible. Some 203 transformer substations are shut down.
Causes of the accident are being investigated.
