November inflation in Russia 0.6% - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Inflation in Russia last month was 0.6% - following 0.6% the month before 0.2% in September, 0.1% in August, 0.8% in July, 0.4% in June, 0.7% in May, 0.5% in April, 0.3% in March, 0.6% in February, and 1.0% in January, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said on Thursday.

November 2012 inflation was 0.3%.

Annualized November inflation, Rosstat said, increased to 6.5% from 6.3% in October. That was the first annual growth for the last five months. In September, annualized inflation was 6.1%, in August 6.5%, also 6.5% in July, 6.9% in June, 7.4% in May, 7.2% in April, 7.0% in March, 7.3% in February, 7.1% in January, and 6.6% last December.

November 2013 inflation turned out higher than analysts expected, and higher than the official forecast. Economists polled for an Interfax consensus forecast at end-November anticipated 0.4% inflation. The Economic Development Ministry likewise anticipated 0.4%.

Prices rose 5.9% in January-November this year versus 6.0% in the same period of 2012.

The base consumer price index - excluding price changes for certain goods influenced by both administrative and seasonal factors - was 100.6% in November and 105.6% in January-November (100.6% this past October, 100.5% in November of last year, and 105.5% in January-November 2012).

Last month, as in preceding months, egg prices continued to rise. They rose 11.6% over the month, 18.2% in October, in September 6.5%, and in August 7.4%. Rising fruit and vegetable prices had an appreciable impact on food prices generally. Tomato and cucumber prices increased 19.3% and 16.4%, respectively, prices for bananas 11.6%, for grapes 6.0%, and for potatoes 4.4%.

Food prices increased 0.9% in November, 1.1% in October, and 0.5% in November last year. Not counting fruits and vegetables, they were up 0.7% last month, 0.9% in October, and 0.6% in November 2012.

Prices for non-food items increased 0.4% last month, 0.5% in October, and 0.4% in November a year ago.

November services prices rose 0.2%, in October decreased 0.1%, and they were flat month-on-month in November of last year.
