Belarusian opposition activist Parfenkov sentenced to one year for not complying with preventive supervision

MINSK. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Minsk's Pervomaysky court has sentenced opposition activist Vasily Parfenkov to one year in a maximum-security prison, Belarusian mass media outlets reported.

Parfenkov has been found guilty of violating the article on non-compliance with preventive supervision requirements.

In February 2011 the opposition activist was sentenced to four years in prison for participating in large-scale unrest in central Minsk in December 2010, when the presidential elections were held. He was later pardoned.

A one-year probation period was imposed on Parfenkov on January 5, 2012. In May 2012 he was sentenced to six months for not complying with the preventive surveillance regulations and the appeal that was filed was dismissed in July. The opposition activist had been in the Svetlogorsky occupational therapy rehabilitation center since late September.
