One in six Master Bank depositors compensated on first day of payout
MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - More than 23,000 depositors of the failed Master Bank received insurance compensation on the first day of payments, December 4, at branches of Sberbank and VTB24, the Deposit Insurance Agency reported.
The DIA said earlier that, according to the register of Master Bank liabilities, about 144,500 depositors are eligible to receive compensation, which will total about 31.2 billion rubles.
Therefore, one in six, or about 16% of depositors received their compensation on the first day of the payout.
The amount paid out on the first day topped 8 billion rubles, which amounts to 26% of DIA's insurance liability on Master Bank, the agency said, citing its deputy general director Andrei Melnikov.
Payments will be made through the two agent banks for a year, until December 4, 2014. After this, insurance will be paid either by the agent banks or by the DIA itself, of which depositors will be notified later.
Most of the payout - 27.4 billion rubles - will go to depositors in Moscow, who number 108,500. Another 1.2 billion rubles will go to the 6,200 depositors in St. Petersburg.
