Ukrainian, Russian energy ministries have not talk gas price reduction
MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - The question of revising contracts for Russian gas delivery to Ukraine, including a reduction in price, has not been discussed at the energy ministry level, Deputy Russian Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky told the press.
"We have not even had a conversation on this subject with [our] Ukrainian colleagues at all. Moreover, in the latest protocols from the meeting of sub-commission [our] Ukrainian colleagues did not raise this question. In the protocol, on the contrary, it is noted that earlier concluded contracts need to be strictly followed," Yanovsky said.
Earlier, Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky said his country was counting on a successful conclusion of negotiations with Russia over a gas price reduction before the end of this year. But even if the country is unable to, he said, it will be able to get one of 10% to 15% in 2014.
Stavytsky said that Ukraine thinks a fair price for Russian gas to be around $280 per thousand cubic meters. It is paying $401-$402 on average this year, factoring in a discount of $100 for the prolongation of the two countries' agreement on the basing of Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
