National Anti-Terrorist Committee confirms elimination of four militants in Kabardino-Balkaria

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Four militants, including the head of a criminal group, who were encircled by special service officers in a house in the Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria have been killed during an exchange of gunfire, the press service for the National Anti-Terrorist Committee has reported.

"The special operation entered its active phase this morning. As a result, four militants, including the head of a criminal group operating on the territory of the Elbruss region, were neutralized," the press center said in a report obtained by Interfax on Friday.

The report states that the leader of the criminal group has been identified as Artur Eneyev, 25, who has been on the wanted persons' list since 2011.

No civilians were hurt in the operation and two special task policemen sustained minor injuries, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee reported.

A source in local law enforcement agencies from Kabardino-Balkaria told Interfax four gunmen were trapped inside a privately owned house in Zhankhoteko earlier.

The investigative headquarters in Kabardino-Balkaria earlier reported that counterterrorism operation was launched in Zhankhoteko at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday on the orders of the head of the Federal Security Service's Department for Kabardino-Balkaria.
