Source: police have no orders to disperse pro-EU demos in Kyiv
KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax) - An informed source has denied that police have been ordered to disperse pro-European Union demonstrations in central Kyiv.
"There has been no dispersal order. It's mainly Interior Forces personnel who are posted in the center," the source told Interfax.
On Monday large numbers of Interior Forces troops were bussed into Ukraine's capital from bases outside the city, but police claimed that the reason was routine rotation of law enforcement personnel charged with maintaining law and order in the city.
Meanwhile, an Interfax reporter said Independence Square and Khreshchatyk, Kyiv's central avenue, were under solid police cordons.
