Ukrainian roundtable meeting to resume on Wednesday - Kravchuk
KYIV. Dec 10 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian nationwide roundtable meeting involving all parties concerned about settling the ongoing political crisis will continue its work at 2:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk said.
An attempt to hold the roundtable meeting at Ukraine Palace in Kyiv was made on Tuesday, but none of the opposition leaders turned up there, an Interfax correspondent reported on Tuesday.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak said, "We have convened a roundtable, but those who are guiding Maidan [the ongoing protests in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine] are not here. These issues cannot be considered unilaterally, and therefore let's postpone this until tomorrow and ask the opposition to express their opinion."
Kravchuk also apologized on behalf of the other three Ukrainian presidents for the fact that the meeting was postponed due to lack of coordination.
It was reported earlier that a nationwide roundtable meeting initiated by Kravchuk started at Ukraine Palace on Tuesday to discuss proposals on normalizing the political situation in Ukraine and restoring public peace and stability.
Taking part in the event were Kravchuk, Rybak, Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko, Party of Regions parliamentary faction leader Oleksandr Yefremov, presidential advisor and head of the presidential department for constitutional-legal modernization Maryna Stavniychuk, parliamentarian Volodymyr Lytvyn, and others. No opposition representatives attended the meeting.
