Ukrainian Interior Ministry: illegal actions against police to be determined as organization of mass disturbances

KYIV. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has urged the protesters in Kyiv not to yield to provocations and to refrain from violations and said the police response will be proportionate and keep within the limits set by the Ukrainian law "On the Police."

"Illegal actions as regards police officers will be determined as the organization of mass disturbances," says a report of the ministry's press service published on Wednesday morning.

"So far police do not use tear gas and special means against the protesters. However, the Interior Ministry declares that it will proportionately respond to the violations within the limits of powers envisaged by the Ukrainian law "On the Police"," the report said.

Speaking of provocations, the Interior Ministry said, "There have been online reports claiming that elderly people detained in the confrontation on Kyiv's Independence Square were allegedly beaten on police buses."

"The Interior Ministry says these reports are not true, they are nothing else but an attempt of certain politicians to manipulate public opinion," the ministry emphasized.
