UDAR party says 10 detained at Independence Square in Kyiv

KYIV. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Oksana Prodan, a member of the UDAR party's faction at the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, and lawyers from the legal defense center of the National Resistance Headquarters are currently at the Shevchenkivsky district police department of Kyiv, where protesters detained at Independence Square in the early hours of Wednesday have been brought.

The situation at the police station is relatively normal, UDAR reported with reference to Verkhovna Rada deputy Valery Karpuntsov.

"The legal defense center has taken the situation surrounding all the detainees under control. Parliamentarians and lawyers are seeing into it that all those detained are treated appropriately at the police station," Karpuntsov said.

According to UDAR's information, at least ten people were detained during a police operation at Independence Square early on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported earlier that "the police detained several of the most active offenders who were disobeying law enforcement officials."

It did not specify how many people were detained.
