Yanukovych invites reps of all political forces, clergy to have dialog
KYIV. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said he invited all political forces from society and the clergy to have a nation-wide dialog.
"I invite representatives of all political forces, Holy Fathers and representatives of society to have nation-wide dialog. I am personally ready to participate in such a round table," Yanukovych was quoted as saying in his address to Ukrainians released on Wednesday.
"I am urging the opposition not to refuse, not to follow the path of resistance and ultimatums for the sake of reaching a compromise," the president said.
The authorities will act "solely in the framework of the law and will never use force against peaceful gatherings," Yanukovych said.
"As the Ukrainian president and guarantor of the Constitution, I will do everything to have normal functioning country, protect rights and interests of each citizen and ensure peace and quiet in our state," Yanukovych said.
