Putin: CIS school graduates should have a chance to take Russian-standard unified state exams

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has declared the necessity of the reciprocal recognition of school graduation certificates with all CIS member countries so that their students could take unified state exams and be admitted to Russian universities.

"We should provide the mutual recognition of school education certificates with all countries of the CIS in the near future," Putin said in his address to the Federal Assembly.

In his opinion, Russia should build up exports of quality education services "and create conditions for the training of foreign citizens and compatriots, primarily from CIS member countries, in Russian higher education establishments."

"We should also consider, and this is a proposal, the opening of centers for taking Russian-standard unified state exams, for instance, in CIS member countries, on the premises of Russian language centers," the president said.

In his words, these exams should be timed to coincide with unified state exams taken by Russian school students.

"This will give an opportunity for talented young people from CIS countries to be admitted to our higher education establishments," Putin said.
