German footwear retailer Deichmann to open first Russian store in March 2014

ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 12 (Interfax) - German footwear retailer Deichmann will open a first store in Russia in March 2014, the company told Interfax.

The first store will be opened in Moscow, followed by the opening of a store in St. Petersburg in April. Deichmann plans to put 9-10 stores in Russia in 2014, a company representative said without specifying the cost of the expansion.

Colliers International told journalists previously that the retailer had concluded a 10-year lease on a 513-square meter location in St. Petersburg's Pearl Plaza shopping center. The company plans to open three-four stores in St. Petersburg; the rest will be in Moscow.

Deichmann, founded in 1913, has 3,325 stores and 33,700 employees in 23 countries. Net sales totaled 3.9 billion euro in 2012, of which locations abroad accounted for 58%. Investment to expand the chain in 2013 totaled 231 million euro, including 141 million euro (61%) outside Germany.

Deichmann LLC, which is wholly owned by Deichmann Shoe Service GmbH, was registered in Russia on June 19, 2013, according to the SPARK-Interfax database.
