Russian delegation getting ready for Geneva discussions on situation in Transcaucasus
MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin will participate in another round of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasus, which will be held on December 18, the Russian Foreign Ministry posted a statement on Thursday.
"The new meeting - in the framework of the international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasus, in which representatives of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the United States, South Ossetia, the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union participate - will be held in Geneva on December 18. The Russian delegation will be headed by State Secretary, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Karasin," the document said.
The agenda includes the situation on the borders of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia and the social and economic development of the region, the Foreign Ministry said.
"The topic of working out reliable guarantees on non-use of force by Georgia regarding the neighboring states will traditionally take the main place in the security group. The consideration of existing draft documents in this sphere, including the Russian initiative to pass a joint statement of all Geneva discussions participants on non-use of force, will continue. The efficiency of mechanisms to prevent and react to incidents at the South Ossetian-Georgian and Abkhaz-Georgian borders will be reviewed," the statement said.
The humanitarian group will continue discussing relevant issues, which are of interest for participants, including exchanging persons detained in border areas and search of missing individuals, the Foreign Ministry said.
