Medvedev: Russia, Belarus agree penalties for oil product market violators

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - The Russian and Belarusian authorities have agreed to harsh penalties for those who violate rules concerning the oil product trade between the two countries, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"It is important for this market to be transparent, so that we understood what is happening on it, what is happening with Russian oil products that are delivered to Belarus, what volume is refined, which is returned to us as gasoline. But of course it is important that this market not be abused," Medvedev said following talks with his Belarusian counterpart, Mikhail Myasnikovich.

"There are always certain people who want to make some extra money by manipulating one or another rule," he said.

"So now these people need to get a rap on the knuckles. We reached agreement on this with our Belarusian partners, so that [these violations] don't become a habit," Medvedev said.
