Power failure reportedly causes MiG-31 crash in Primorsky territory - source

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Power system problems are the most probable cause of the crash of a Mikoyan MiG-31 interceptor aircraft in the Primorsky territory on Saturday, a source close to the commission probing the accident told Interfax-AVN.

"While testing the MiG-31 performance after scheduled repairs, the crew shut down the plane's engine consistent with the mission task, which led to a failure of the interceptor's power system," he said.

The plane started swaying from side to side, the source continued.

"After the engine was turned on, the swaying intensified," he said.

"At the current stage of the inquiry into the accident, the commission tends to believe that the power failure was caused by a malfunction of the gearbox," the source said.
