Return of Russian border guards to Tajikistan not on agenda - CSTO secretary general
MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Nikolai Bordyuzha, has ruled out the possibility of Russian border guards being redeployed in Tajikistan.
"The return of Russian border guards to the territory of Tajikistan is not on the agenda," Bordyuzha told the Rossiya 24 television station on Monday.
Tajikistan established its own border guard service, which is properly manned, he said.
A group of the Russian Security Service's (FSB) border guards is present on the Tajik-Afghan border, where these Russian specialists are helping the Tajik authorities maintain security along the border, Bordyuzha said.
"But Tajik border guards certainly bear the main responsibility for protecting the border," he added.
