ASHGABAT. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and CIS Executive Committee Chairman - Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev have discussed prospects for the interaction between Turkmenistan and the CIS Executive Committee.

Lebedev headed the CIS election observation mission, which monitored the Turkmen parliament election on December 15.

The CIS Executive Committee chairman stated at the meeting aired by the local television that the election was multi-candidate and consistent with the universally recognized norms of election governance.

Berdimuhamedow thanked the CIS mission and the CIS Executive Committee for fruitful cooperation and emphasized that Turkmenistan would remain an active member of the CIS.

"Cooperation in the CIS is still a primary vector of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan which, being an associate member of the Commonwealth due to its neutral status, is entirely interested in the unfailing expansion and strengthening of partnership both in bilateral and multilateral formats," Berdimuhamedow said.
