Russia increases polymer production 10% in 11M

MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - Russian chemical companies produced 10.2% more polymers in January-November 2013 than they did in the same 11 months of 2012, at 5.36 million tonnes, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

They boosted polyethylene production by 22.1% to 1.671 million tonnes and polystyrene output by 21.8% to 416,800 tonnes. PVC production grew 0.3% to 588,800 tonnes, and polypropylene output jumped 26.4% to 766,200 tonnes.

Chemical companies produced 428,700 tonnes of polyester plastics, polycarbonates, alkyd and epoxy resins in January-November 2013, down 6.9% year-on-year. They increased polyamide production by 14.4% to 126,300 tonnes.

Russian companies increased ethylene production by 18.9% to 2.416 million tonnes; benzene output by 11.6% to 1.09 million tonnes; styrene - 15.6% to 555,200 tonnes; phenol - 2% to 258,100 tonnes; and propylene - 19.1% to 1.177 million tonnes.

Synthetic rubber output grew 4.2% to 1.362 million tonnes.

Output of rubber manufactures fell 2.4%, including 30.9 million car tires (6.5% more), 6.668 million truck and bus tires (10.7% less), and 1.331 million farm machinery tires (7.2% more).

Output of plastics was up 7.3% in the 11 months, including 544,200 tonnes of pipe, hoses, sleeves and fittings (17.3% less), 12.465 billion bottles and containers (0.3% more) and 22.796 million square meters of plastic windows and sills (7.7% more).
